The Serbia Railway Sector Modernization Proјect (SRSM Project) is a Multiphase Programmatic Approach initiated by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to support the Government of the Republic of Serbia in modernizing the railway sector. The SRSM Project addresses institutional, physical, and operational aspects of railway in a coordinated manner, providing a structured framework for phased support that aligns with readiness and progress milestones.
The SRSM Project is planned over a ten-year period and consists of three overlapping phases. Each phase is designed to ensure continuous improvement in the efficiency of the railways, while enhancing the quality of services for both citizens and businesses in the Republic of Serbia.
For the SRSM Project, MCTI establishes a specialized Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The PIU has primary responsibility for SRSM Project execution, ensuring that the SRSM Project development objectives are met and ensuring that financial resources are budgeted, disbursed, expended, accounted and audited. The Central Fiduciary Unit (CFU), within the Ministry of Finance (MoF), carries out the overall coordination, management, implementation and oversight of procurement and finance. The MCTI acts as the contracting authority for all activities financed under the SRSM Project.
